I applaud, I sing ...
So I remember. "

In this photo, Christina Goh is three years old, in Abidjan. She was born in 1977 in Paris 12, France, to a Martinican mother, a microbiology technician, and an Ivorian father, a young graduate in computer engineering who have just settled in Côte d'Ivoire. Disillusions do not take long and the family will go through tragedies (death of the eldest son, bankruptcy, armed robbery). “My childhood and adolescence were a tumult appeased by poetry and writing.” Christina Goh
Best mark in the French Bac of her promotion across West Africa, scholarship holder, in 1995, when she arrived in France (Aix en Provence) for her studies, Christina discovered her country of birth far from her family. The student refuses the proposals of the "sugar daddys", the marriage proposal of a pastor, is very hungry, finds occasional jobs (housekeeper and home lessons for children), obtains her diplomas, then returns to Côte d 'Ivoire where she became a daily intern correspondent, assistant manager, then project manager in the private sector. At 23, she has just been recruited as an executive to a position of responsibility in an international institution when she realizes that music, rediscovered during her studies, will never be a hobby. She resigns, searches in vain for a musical group and decides instead to sing in the street in Abidjan ...
No one knows that she tried to end her life when she was in France.
Gospel, classical or pop ... Christina Goh will have concretely experienced the three universes, declined the proposal to integrate the project "the African Spice Girls", won the contest "Dreams of Africa, the best voices of the West Africa "in 2003.
But when she self-produced her first album, it was a hybrid opus that she conceived, which evoked the luminous interiority of abused women. It is refused by all labels except the last one to which she presents it: the historic EMI Jat Côte d'Ivoire. Of this disc which will never be released because of war, there remains the title "Reputation of penalty" which will launch the artist internationally 4 years later from Martinique but she does not know it yet. Côte d'Ivoire has just fallen into generalized violence for socio-political reasons.
2004. Arrival in Martinique, where the artist was repatriated with a suitcase for all luggage, after having narrowly escaped gunfire during a military brawl in Akouédo in Côte d'Ivoire. Arriving on the mother island, Christina lives in a studio with five roommates and depends on food vouchers and hot meals distributed to the homeless. After having unsuccessfully canvassed the producers, she found a freelance as a daily correspondent and re-recorded the EP "Eveil" at her own expense in the only studios that trusted her, Royal Warriors Musik of the Rasta community.
It is in melee on stage that Christina Goh will make the difference. Her style in Martinique is atypical: - She evolves in low midrange frequencies in trio - She wants to accompany herself with a djembe at a time when the instrument is stigmatized - She rarely does cover songs and recites poems in concert!
Bars, restaurants, casinos, even festivals despite the reservations of some professionals. The Martinican public appreciates ...
The artist ended up on the television news with the broadcast of his concert at the ARMADA Festival in 2010, broadcast in prime time on Antilles Télévision several times with success. The same year, the Laurette Théâtre program the Christina Goh Concept in its large hall. at the Festival Off d'Avignon France.

The concert in Paris in 2010 will allow Christina to meet the radio host Jacques Thévenet, who will put in contact with the international label Plaza Mayor Company Ltd based in London and Hong Kong. "Plaza Mayor Company Ltd. has introduced me to all continents. Jacques Dejean has allowed me to relatively appease what tortures me: this conviction that somewhere in this world, someone will understand the created work; then wishing so loud that he can hear it ... For me, it's an obsession ... No doubt because some songs saved my life. "Christina Goh
Regular requests from France, Europe, Africa, then the United States encouraged Christina to settle in France. She will choose the Touraine "de Balzac". In 2019, the one-hour total improvisation saxophone - voice concert with Noah Preminger at the Boiler House Jazz Series of the Museum of Innovation and Industry of the United States marks a turning point for Christina, invited by John Bechard. The artist dedicates the beginning of the concert to Joseph Schumpeter and offers his expenses to the Museum.
THE LOVE OF MUSIC IMPROVISATION
Musical improvisation remains one of Christina Goh's passions. In jazz, on the Blues stages (Hall Blues Club France, Blues Sphere Belgium) but also in the "Entertainment" circuits.
In 2019, live on the National Radio of Côte d'Ivoire, she responded to the request of the hosts of the program "Un truc de ouf" and took up the challenge that took her by surprise: singing a text from a song by Quebec artist Garou to zouglou music by Ivorian artist DJ Jacob!
Christina Goh will have collaborated with the Western medieval milieu on several occasions.
- With the Ensemble Le Condor de Provence on three main stages - With Les Passeurs de Légendes de Touraine on several original audiovisual productions.
During an interview before the concert, he will be asked about the subjects of his collaborations: "Are you not moving away from your African roots?"
Christina, shocked, answers: "I am a human being. The instrument and the language that I prefer for a song depend on the history of the text and its emotion. It is my whole concept. To exchange with the other who willingly, becomes a necessity in order not to be limited. It is a universal perspective. "
In 2017, Christina Goh delivers a very personal opus, probably the most poetic and conceptual of her albums. It is "Blues Troubadour" which underlines the spirit of improvisation of the original Blues and the art of Trobar. As if her previous explorations had secured her in her own universe. In 2019, the UT FORTIS initiative confirms music serving the poetic text.
Release of the self-produced single "N'oublie pas", the first opus produced in Tours in mainland France at Concept Prod Studios by rocker David Perraudin.
Christina Goh is selected by the Festival International de Percussions du Québec to represent the Center Val de Loire in the edition "La France accoste à Montréal au son des percussions".
The artist is named a member of the Jury of the 15th Independent Music Awards USA.
Release of the Best of Christina Goh (24 tracks) mixed and distributed by Plaza Mayor Company Ltd and of the book "Center (Focus)" which explains the guiding principle of the Best of.
